Teeth Brushing on Vacation

In Coaching, Discipline, General, Personal Stories, Uncategorized by Don Alley

I’ve decided that when I’m on vacation, I’m going to stop brushing my teeth.

No toothbrush. No toothpaste. No floss.

But it totally makes sense, right? It’s VACATION!! You Don’t do anything on vacation!!

When I’m home and working, I always have to brush my teeth. I wake up, I brush. There is never a morning that you want to leave the house forgetting, right?

And then at night, without fail, we brush. Always brushing. Always taking care of our gums. Brushing and flossing. Flossing and brushing.

But there should be a point when we stop. When we take a break. We deserve a break, right? We have been consistent day after day, week after week, squeezing out every last ounce, contorting the tube into a folded origami dollar bill… I just need a break. Don’t you?!

So, next vacation, I’m gonna stop. Breath and gums, don’t care.

Sound ridiculous? Well….

So is the mentality that we stop exercising on vacation!!

I have knowledge of a certain team of martial artists…. that took off the week of Thanksgiving to spend with their families… AND DIDN’T WORKOUT the entire break!!?

Their excuse? Vacation!

How could you not train??! No running? No stretching? No nothing??

And it showed haha. The first workout back, after just one week.. it was paaaaainful. I even decided beforehand that I would go relatively easy on them, being that it had been a week.

And it was tough for them. Heavy breathing. Panting. Side-holding. Ralphing. Crying. Whimpering. The whole nine yards.

It was just a week.

But they needed a break, right?

Do your teeth and gums need a break? No. No, they don’t. Flossing should stop on vacation, right? No.

We brush our teeth daily, twice a day, out of the habit of good dental hygiene. We do it regardless of if we are on vacation or not.

Whether we feel like it or not. It’s just what we need to do, and we do it.

So it should be with exercise. Be good to your body and your cells. Every week, preferably every day, take care of your body.

Push it. Move it. Stretch it.

And you will live a longer, happier, healthier life!

And then the workout after a break won’t be so painful…

Oh and Team!… I love you 🙂
